Day 14 - 08.08.15 - Free Tuk Tuk for everyone

We went out for breakfast this morning, to a hostel across the road. Sophie and I had pancakes with mango and some unknown, black and white fruit. Kelsey had scrambled eggs on toast. We discovered that the pancake sauce bottle was crawling with small bugs, which was great. We did not use that sauce.
We then walked to something called the 'Golden Mountain' - a temple on top of 318 sets, with a view over the whole of Bangkok. On the way, several tuk tuk drivers told us that the Golden Mountain was closed as it was a "special holiday". Some stated that it didn't open till 12, others said that it wasn't going to open at all.... A mixed bag of excuses and they were all offering to take us other places. We ignored them. One man called us stupid for ignoring his advice. As we got closer, we saw people climbing the steps and when we got to the entrance we saw this:
Who's the stupid one now?! Despite the tuk tuk drivers, we made it to the top of the Golden Mountain. On the way up there were lots of Buddha shrines made out of gold.
There were also lots of bells which Kelsey loved.
At the top of the 318 steps was the temple and the view of Bangkok.
We got asked to fill in a survey by some local shool girls about film in tourism. They then asked us to have a picture with them.
We stopped for a coffee at the shop half way down. I had an iced latte, Sophie had an iced Matcha and Kelsey had a water.
We decided to get a tuk tuk back as the girls weren't feeling particularly well. The first driver offered us 80Baht to get home. We refused. Then another driver approached us and offered us a journey for 10Baht as long as we went inside 2 shops and looked interested. The he would get free petrol.  Sounded dodgy but we went for it anyway. He first took us to a tailor where we had to pretend we were interested in buying a suit. Kelsey said we were going to a wedding and so we pretended to want dresses for that. We told the tailor that it was too expensive and ran out the shop. One down one to go. The tuk tuk driver then took us to a travel information shop. We asked about travelling to Cambodia (our next destination) but ended up just arguing we the man and leaving. But the tuk tuk driver was happy with his free petrol and took us back to the hostel. He then told us we could have the tuk tuk ride for free as we helped him out!!!
We went round the corner for lunch. The girls had stir fry and I had BBQ pork soup.
We are now just relaxing at the hostel.

  2. Be careful, you know what they say about a free lunch. Had a green Thai curry served in a coconut yet?
