Day 28 - 22.08.15 - War Museum + Night Bus

Slightly jaded from the pub crawl, we decided that we would go to the war museum today. The War Remnants Museum was more of a memorial to those Vietnamese who lost their lives in the American-Vietnamese war. Although very one sided, it was interesting and full of photographs taken during the war.
I found the exhibit on "agent orange" most interesting. Agent orange was a chemical sprayed by the Americans to destroy any forest that could be a hiding place for the enemy. Agent orange contains a chemical called dioxin and only after the war, were its effects found out. Many children were born with nervous dysfunctions, birth defects and mental health issues. The effects are still being seen today. Although horrible, this excited my inner medic and I was fascinated with the preserved bodies of some conjoined twins.
After the war museum, we headed back to the hostel but got stopped on the way by a company called 'Just Talk'. It was a group of Vietnamese people who wanted to talk to tourists about their culture and share experiences. We must have been talking for at least an hour and a half but it was great fun. We even got a scarf as a thank you!
A spur of the moment decision has led to us moving from Ho Chi Minh City a day early. We have decided to catch a night bus to Nha Trang to optimise our time on the beach. The bus comes at 21:30, so we are just packing and getting ready to leave.
And of course I have to mention food! I had a lovely beef stew for dinner tonight and some bread to mop up the juices. Delicious!!

  1. I went to have my nails done today - I thought the people in the shop were Chinese but they turned out to be Vietnamese so I excitedly pulled out my phone and showed the girl doing my nails some of your photos - she was telling me what all the food was and she said that where you were talking to the Vietnamese people was just near her school - she didn't recognize anyone in the photo though. Think I was more excited than her! But just goes to show "it's a small world after all".

  3. The war museum looks fascinating, I bet the one in the US would be a bit different! I don't think there were any winners (like most wars I suppose). On a lighter note, I'm sure it's just a trick of the camera, but it looks like the boy standing next to Kelsey is helping himself to something from her bag?!!
